A lot of articles have been written already about teen travel programs and summer activities, and while looking for the best for your kid we are sure parents have read most of those articles. Ready to apply for some camp? Done some research? There are some teen travel camp names that may be unfamiliar to you, or words that you don’t understand while reading information. So we wrote this article to get you acquainted and to talk them over. Walmart going Well, if you hear “Today I’m in Walmart” that means no good to your money. that means that most of your time you’ll be walking around in order to stock up with all the favorite snacks or giving an ogle and just making sheep’s eyes at the weird American food. But even when you are leaving teen travel camp with friends for an evening, you will also say “I’m going to Walmart”. Teen travel campers understand this spy code phrase as “I’m going for a date with another counselor” and start guessing who you are going to match in the teen travel camp staff. A teen travel camp counselor In every teen travel camp being a counselor means a different notion, but in general it means a person who works directly with teens. Variants are “general” or “bulk” counselor, but anyway that will mean that your task is to be “a parent” for the teen travel campers. Your supervision of the kids will last all day and night long, you’re going to guard them while sleeping in the bulk, and on the whole – just having fun with teen travel campers, entertaining them and watching them stay safe. If you are a specialist counselor, which means your activity will be limited just with teaching kids. Bunk Each of us have hear d this word at least once in our life. But you still may wonder what it exactly means in a world of teen travel camp. Speaking shortly, a bunk is a cabin where you are going to sleep while being in a teen travel camp. Bunk may differ in shapes, but all of them have common content: some beds, facilities of shower and toilet, and even cubby! Oh, yes, cubbies… go straight to the next paragraph. Cubby Sounds so cute, doesn’t it? Have you already guessed what this word mean? It is a short form for “a cupboard”. And each of you who live in a teen travel camp bunk will have a separate cubby where you can put your clothes and keep personal belongings. An ideal place to hide snacks from Walmart (for every teen travel camper not to guess about them) and keep you mobile phone. Duffel This term is used in The Parent Trap movie, and this is an item that you would hate to see again until pre-camp period is over. So, “duffel” means a bag that is packed by parents of teen travel campers with all necessary stuff that may be needed, even a kitchen sink – can you imagine that? Seriously, when children come to the teen travel camp with all that amount of staff being packed in duffels, it seems sometimes they have never had home. Sometimes lorries are rented for transporting of duffel bags before the teen travel campers arrive, and counselors are responsible for their transportation to the right bunk and unpacking them. Rest hours It really sounds like an advantage to everybody. Of course, this hour is for “having rest” for all teen travel campers, but not for counselors. The rest hour is just after lunch, there is a requirement to teen travel campers to stay in the bunks, and some of the counselors should supervise them. Other counselors will be having rest at the same time, may be having a nap or chilling in the lounge. Color war You couldn’t have missed lots of photos and videos, picturing a teen travel camp full of teen travel campers covered with paint. It seems so funny and entertaining! And really, the most awaited holiday of a summer is the Color War. The start is when teen travel campers together with counselors break out and divide into teams. Each team has its own color and they wear it for 3 or 4 days. The more activities a team performs, the more points it gets. Every war has its ending. So the Color war has its end with a lot of dancing, having fun, and singing, cheering and announcing the winning team. Lots of fun! GaGa Ball No Lady Gaga is expected here! Here we mean an activity that is common for teen travel camps and resembles a dodge ball. The difference is only in the name, frankly speaking. The game takes place in a special pit surrounded by wooden fence. Two teams are needed for the game and one ball. You are out of the game every time you are it with the ball, or you hit ball out of the pit. Day of visit or visiting day When coming closer to the visiting weekend, all the talks in the teen travel camp will be about how teen travel campers miss their families and how much they wait for the big day. Despite the fact that children duffel bags were extremely packed, on the visiting day parents bring huge amount of candies and other gifts. But anyway, it’s a very pleasant view when teen travel campers hurry to meet their relatives, and sometimes the parents themselves turn out to be very interesting people! Cookie line This is not for all teen travel camp, but for some it is an ordinary thing. The event is the following: every day at half past eleven teen travel campers line up to get some fresh-baked cookies with juice or milk – and this is absolutely awesome! The most favorite cookies were considered to be those with cranberry chocolate and all the leftovers are given to the counselors, as a rule, as a snack for evening time. Be aware! The teen travel camp is not responsible for any pound the counselors gain while being in the summer course of teen travel camp!
